Recognising Early Years Settings Nutrition Provision

Why Sign Up to our Nutrition Award?

Our Nutrition Award recognises London Borough of Newham early years settings who demonstrate best practice through their nutrition provision. It reflects and enhances the EYFS Statutory Framework and the EYFS Nutrition Guidance for early years settings. Achievement of our award will support your setting to:

achieve best nutrition practice in your setting
identify areas of development to improve children's health and well-being outcomes
develop menus in-line with the EYFS Nutrition Guidance

create opportunities for home learning
develop a positive eating environment
embed learning about food activities
meet EYFS requirements for nutrition, oral health and activity.

Our three year award will allow you to progressively develop from Bronze, to Silver and then Gold.

Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award Progress Year by Year Year 1-Audit of Current Practice - Identify areas of best practice - Identify goals for improvement - Work to achieve the 5 criteria. Year 2- Achieving Best Practice -Work to embed the 5 criteria - Showcase how you achieved your goals - Outline the impact for children. Year 3- Excelling in Best Practice - Embedded the 5 criteria points - A case study highlighting an area of development, based on local priorities for children and families

How Can I Achieve An Award?

To achieve an award, you'll need to meet criteria in the following areas by submitting information on your current practice and setting goals.

Criteria 1- Setting Menu Criteria2 Food and Nutrition Policy, Criteria 3 Health Promotion, Criteria 4 Cooking and Learning about Food, Criteria 5 Food Safety

What Support Will You Receive?

Our team of expert AfN Registered Nutritionists look forward to supporting you to achieve the award and are on hand to guide you through the process. You will receive:

Comprehensive review of your menu and food policy

Training for staff in the promotion of health and well-being

The Early Start Nutrition award is aligned to the Mayor of London’s Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) award programme meaning you'll be able to count your Nutrition Award as evidence for HEYL.
